How late is too late for callbacks?

Post by Anonymous User » Fri Sep 07, 2012 8:44 pm

I'm in a tricky situation where I want to interview with one firm in SF/SV, but given a very complicated situation involving cross-country flying, the best situation for me would be to interview on Monday, September 24. Is that too late for a callback? V50 firm involved here.

People get jobs all the way till November. That being said, if you want this place I would try to schedule it sooner if at all possible.

What would be so complicated about it?

Yes, sooner is better. And some firms do keep hiring throughout October, but it seems like you'd need a really compelling reason to go sooner if it's somewhere you want to work.

Missing class should not be something holding you back. A 5 or 6 hour plane ride is not a huge hardship, unless some other factor is at play....

OP here. Basically, the story is this:

Deleted for cautionary purposes (you never know). :-)

-Firms X and Y are interviewing me, and the plane ticket has been bought.
-Firm Z, which hasn't done a screener with me, asked when I'll be in town to meet some attorneys. They can't meet with me when I'm there. The earliest they can meet with me is several days past my interviews with Firms X and Y. I don't know whether Firms X or Y would foot any bill involving a plane ticket change, and Firm Z didn't bring up paying for the plane ticket change (though I didn't directly ask).
-I'm wondering whether I should suggest a screener, and if they like me, I fly out a second time later in the month. (I also have another interview back on the East Coast complicating things.) This could also buy us some time in case there's a cancellation so I can meet Firm Z while interviewing with Firms X and Y.
um, fly out to interview firms X/Y, fly home. wait several days. fly back to interview with firm Z. what's the problem?

Are callbacks next week considered late?

Cursed be my T14 for having such a late OCI.

It doesn't matter if it's "late" (and it probably isn't). What matters is that you schedule things as early as possible. If you can't schedule them earlier than next week then there is no issue.
