I actually think this is sound advice. Well at least the sentiment is correct. No-one like over confident know-it-alls. Know your role.chimp wrote:LOLlawloser22 wrote:I was TOO good at my job

There's no such thing as doing your job too well. There is such a thing as being too smug, presumptuous or over-confident.EvilClinton wrote:I actually think this is sound advice. I'm not trying to kick you when you're down but I'm not sure your OP is good guidance.lawloser22 wrote:

Several TLSers have pointed to their relatively minor errors for their no offers. The kind of mistakes that every summer made a few times. It suggests to me that firms aren't telling people the real reason, and they're either filling in the blanks with speculation or taking the firm at face value when the firm isn't being candid.lawloser22 wrote:That's fine, but I know others on these boards who have come to realize the exact same thing.IAFG wrote:I'm not trying to kick you when you're down but I'm not sure your OP is good guidance.lawloser22 wrote:

Where does TLS say that you should try too hard and be pushy and annoying at work?
I haven't seen that anywhere.
You are probably right though. People who are too intense are exhausting to work with.

How much did your grades drop (could it be they expected better grades because of how good your grades were prior to transferring and the 2L grading scale is relaxed)? Which corp. departments were slow? Thanks.

OP is giving great advice actually. People who go into a CB trying to oversell themselves usually get dinged in my experience. Have a conversation and relax. It's good advice.

TLS doesn't recommend that people be too intense, but if you go into an interview trying to follow every minute bit of advice you could find on here, then you are going to come off like an uptight automaton. So to that extent I think this is good advice. It's really what people mean when they say you should "be yourself." Sorry to hear about your no-offer, OP. No concerns about this thread outing you, I guess?

OP did get an SA despite his over eagerness, so I question whether that was really detrimental.
The most likely answer for his getting no offered in this scenario is, unfortunately, not one that was within his realm of control.
