Goodwin Procter - Corporate Practice (Silicon Valley)
Does anyone have any insight into Goodwin's Menlo Park (Silicon Valley) office? Specifically within their Emerging Companies/Venture Capital practice. I know it is building a pretty strong transactional practice and am curious if anyone has or knows anyone that has done a summer their recently. Any insight would be appreciated.

a related question, if you interviewed with one practice group and after the summer decided you like another practice, is it okay to ask to switch? like corp to lit or lit to corp
oh and general thoughts about the firm!

Re: Goodwin Procter - Corporate Practice (Silicon Valley)
Was an SA at another Goodwin office this summer, so my info is both a bit disconnected and positive (if things were rough they wouldn't tell the SAs), but from everything I gathered the office was really taking off. Great lateral partners (another just came over from WSGR) and while the office is still relatively small, the practice seems to be pretty busy. Was told that they were pretty open to associates of any seniority doing emerging companies (or as they call it, tech companies) work who wanted to lateral over there, and met one who was doing just that, which I took as a sign there was plenty of work going on there.
Sorry I don't know too much about that specific office, but the SAs I met from there (they flew all the SAs to Boston at one point) were pretty chill and seemed to be having a good time.

I have a friend that summered there this year. She loved it and said it seems like a really great place to work and she liked the people there. I keep hearing they are really trying to expand the Bay Area offices.

Thank you both very much. That all aligns with what I've been able to pick up. Much appreciated.

Any more updates on this front?
It looks like (from NALP) that associates were pretty busy in the SV office in 2011, but still didn't meet the billables requirement on average. San Diego was way below that mark. I have heard that some associates in the Boston office are trying to strengthen their ties with the SV office and some have transferred to CA recently.

I accepted in that office. From talking to the associates, they have definitely been busy (at least on the transactional side). Noticed that too on NALP, but not sure what to make of it. Are you considering Goodwin's SV office?

Boston. Deciding between Cooley and Goodwin here. I'm from out west though (mountain region), so moving back west in the future is a definite possibility. Torn between taking the offer for the stronger Boston firm or a satellite office of a strong CA firm...

That was the same decision (between firms) I faced, but here in CA. The people in the Goodwin office in SV are awesome and they seem to be growing their practice pretty rapidly. Can't comment on Boston though.
