You guys might be surprised. I booked an 80-person class and got As in my other classes the semester after I struck out at OCI. Sometimes the stress makes you work harder come finals. Keep pushing, bros.TTH wrote:Ditto. Also, copped dat AIII clerkship since last posting ITT. But it's a flyover district, so I still consider myself very unemployed.

Re: The Vale of Tears (3L Job Hunting) (No advice for 0/1/2Ls)
Checking in. 2L summer SA firm said they would not be making offers until December, and they explicitly said they were not giving 100% offers.
60 mass mails in August, all rejections/silences.
1 OCI interview with V100 firm. Spent close to a week blowing off school to perfect my interview answers (I'm a weak @ interviewing) and research the firm. Within 5 minutes of starting the interview, the partner said that she wasn't even aware that she would be interviewing 3Ls, and that all of their 2L summers had already accepted their full-time offers.
I have one state AG office application out, but statistically I have a low chance at even getting an interview, and a close-to-zero chance at landing the job (likely over 500 applicants for 5-6 positions).
I guess I'm lucky to technically be in the running at the 2L SA firm, but as others have said, I consider myself unemployed until I have the offer in-hand.

Hope is better than nothing. I am applying for a project opportunity at a smallish boutique real estate firm over the break and "hope" it leads to something more if I can get it. Likely there will be tons of competition all hoping it will turn into an offer if we shine.

Definitely TTT for large firms but may be de rigeur to some extent for smaller shops. They don't really have a large recruiting budget or wait until you are "in town."SBL wrote:None of them are offering you travel expenses? Probably not the best sign.Geist13 wrote:Probably. Anyone gonna try to set up meets or informational interviews when they're back home?

Found out today that a guy who got no offered with me got a job at a small firm in my hometown off some could mails. 1 interview, 1 offer. Definitely helped that he's at an in-state school. Quite jelly.

I don't think 3L's are out yet. I just think that not much will happen until January / February, when firms have a better idea of their needs, and small firms start considering hiring.

PM me. We're classmates and also looking at Chicago.Anonymous User wrote:One more reason to attend a school in the city you want to work in. There are so many more opportunities in my target city (Chicago) that I cannot participate in, and the city I go to school in (St. Louis) where I don't want to live has nothing. Having access to multiple symplicity's, it's so discouraging to see 10x as many postings at a T2 in Chicago than at WUSTL.
I'm in NYC this semester working full time for a government agency in the area I want to practice. It won't lead to a job, but all I can do is pray that it makes my resume better than someone who took bullshit law classes. When I get back to wustl in the spring, I actually have to try so that I can keep/get cum laude when I graduate. If I can't find anything with law review & cum laude from wustl, then I hope Mauritius is as nice as it is in pictures.

Nice, dude. Are you applying to both PD and DA stuff, or are you pigeonholed by your resume?rad lulz wrote:Set up interview w PD in home market. Would be solid to get DAT trial exp. and PSLF eligibility.

Grats brah. Perhaps I'm being overly selective, but I refuse to have anything to do with criminal law.rad lulz wrote:Set up interview w PD in home market. Would be solid to get DAT trial exp. and PSLF eligibility.
Grabbed a part time gig for the school year helping a small firm with alternative fund formation (hedge fund, incubator, SPE, that kind of stuff). Pay should be pretty solid and give me something interesting to talk about during interviews.
I gotta start scoping that state civil lit type shit.

Re: The Vale of Tears (3L Job Hunting) (No advice for 0/1/2Ls)
Honestly my resume doesn't really scream govt. I worked biglawlz my 2L summer. But I have worked in criminal defense before law school. Without going too much into detail about my resume, it leans defense. I know a couple DAs hire before graduation but I was a little late on the uptake w those. As for PDs, this office is the only one I've heard that hires before graduation (though I'd venture to say there are others out there). They actually came on campus to interview. I'm pretty excited to interview though.nevdash wrote:Nice, dude. Are you applying to both PD and DA stuff, or are you pigeonholed by your resume?rad lulz wrote:Set up interview w PD in home market. I figure for other PD/DA stuff I'll try to set up some meets when I'm back home but not worry too much about applying before grad.

Re: The Vale of Tears (3L Job Hunting) (No advice for 0/1/2Ls)
You can't possibly pursue leads in every single area (what with school and all) so I don't think that's bad. Especially in areas you have no experience. For example, I didn't apply for a lot of the govt. honors shit. I couldn't make a convincing lie about HUD if my life depended on it.Omerta wrote:Grats brah. Grats on the part-time jerb bro. Sounds like good experience. What do you mean by "state civil lit?"

Maybe this thread should include "fears" and "the need for lots of beers" in addition to just tears. Seriously, it is rough out there for the jerbless.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
