Thanks for the feedback. I just assumed Quinn's target applicants were those already with offers in hand, and that the firm tries to pry them away with the signing bonus. Also of note is my lack of ties to SoCal. Guess I'll go ahead and wing it though!Anonymous User wrote: ↑Fri Jul 16, 2021 2:39 pmLaw firms typically will not waste their time with screeners--they would not offer you one if they were not at least a little bit interested in hiring you.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Fri Jul 16, 2021 2:21 pmI understand Quinn Emanuel does a lot of 3L hiring but what about for applicants without a 2L SA on their resume? Got a screener for the LA office and was unsure if it was worth doing considering that glaring omission.

For postings, does anyone know of any places where people look for compiled firm postings? Or do you all just go through site by site when checking? I know of gobiglaw and Law360, but curious if anyone know of anywhere else

Depends on many things, including your T-30. T-30 can mean UF or Alabama, which have abysmal biglaw placement. Regardless, a hair above median with non-useful WE will probably have a 10% chance at the firms you listed. Even getting to top 1/3 would not give help significantly.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Tue Jul 13, 2021 11:30 pmT-30, 3.46 (probably hair above median; unranked), substantial WE that shows I will stay put at one place but nothing useful like IB, rest of resume is mediocre, e.g., secondary journal.
I know this is a dumb question but do you think my stats can get me a 3L screener at the following firms?
K&E Chicago, L&W / W&C NY. I really want to go to a firm with an office abroad for personal reasons and most of those firms tend to be very elite. I am willing to hustle but is this even possible given I only have a year to build up my resume?
You should probably be focusing on larger, less selective firms with large international footprints like the magic circle firms (although Freshfields seems to be more competitive lately), DLA, K&L Gates, Dentons, Baker & McKenzie, etc.

I'm at a V15 firm that is slammed with M&A/cap markets. The firm recently sent out an email asking junior associates to network and bring in more potential candidates. Can you PM me and we can set up a time to chat?Anonymous User wrote: ↑Fri Jun 18, 2021 3:31 pmStart looking now. Once a week go to each of the top 100 firm's career pages and apply to any first year associate positions. Don't just rely on what your school posts on their job board. I would also reach out to recruiters directly. Now that you have a higher GPA, you should be a good candidate for those who realize they need more associates in their incoming class. From experience, most of the 3Ls that apply during 3L year have lower GPAs and so recruiters jump on the ones with GPAs that normally would have gotten them a 2L SA gig. You may not see many postings until in the Fall after firms have figured out how many people will be returning, but it absolutely doesn't hurt to start looking now.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Wed Jun 16, 2021 4:41 amRising 3L here. Initially interested in litigation but at this point I am willing to do anything to chip away at this $200k debt, so I am open to M&A/capital markets work. I am just confused on how to approach firms. My school's career services office has been worthless. When and where should I start reaching out? I did the whole networking thing last fall and made some decent connections, but obviously did not follow through on landing a SA gig. I understand COVID screwed up the timeline a bit, so I was not sure when to start sending applications.

T14, 3.7, Struck out at OCI in Jan but am interning at a district court this summer and managed to write-on to law review. Do I have a chance at Biglaw litigation? I have no problem relocating.

You wrote on to law review as a rising 3L? I did not know schools offered law review spots to 3L's. Seems like it would help make your resume look a bit nicer, though.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Sat Jul 24, 2021 11:59 pmT14, 3.7, Struck out at OCI in Jan but am interning at a district court this summer and managed to write-on to law review. Now that most summer associate programs have ended or are close to ending, have you all been reaching out to recruiters now? Or are you waiting for things to settle down before asking for updates?

Don’t reach out to recruiting now. If you know someone at the firm, reach out to them. Recruiting is about to start OCI, so they will be very busy.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Wed Jul 28, 2021 8:05 pmNow that most summer associate programs have ended or are close to ending, have you all been reaching out to recruiters now? Yeah I transferred last year after write-on ended, so they let me participate this year. It's nice to have but I can't help but think not having any journal is why I struck out at OCI.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Tue Jul 27, 2021 10:36 pmYou wrote on to law review as a rising 3L? Re: The Vale of Tears (3L Job Hunting) (No advice for 0/1/2Ls)
Graduated from a lower T14 this year. Had high hopes for big law, but struck out at OCI. Only got a couple CBs and those were from cold emails outside of OCI, so there is probably an interviewing problem. Also went all in on DC for OCI, which may have been a mistake.
Technically I do have a job lined up, but it's just not what I had hoped for. I truly busted my ass in law school, ended up in the top third. Applied all around, including to 250 clerkships. Got some clerkship interviews but no offers. Did at least get some decent internships during law school (at least as far as non-SA positions go).
Not sure what my point is other than to express some self-pity. To those still looking for a job - just keep plugging, it will happen for you.

Sorry this happened to you, and your story is a good example of why no one, regardless of how hard they work or how accomplished they are, should go all-in on DC during OCI.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Aug 02, 2021 12:36 pmAlso went all in on DC for OCI, which may have been a mistake.
