Did I done goof? Possible callback faux pas.
I got a call after an OCI which I let go to voicemail, telling me to call the recruitment desk to setup a callback interview. So I called, and after setting a time/date, the woman asked me something like, "Do you have any preference about having a LGBT or minority interviewer?" I wasn't expecting the question, and I said I'd prefer if there were none of either. She didn't say anything for, legit, 10 seconds. I'm not even exaggerating. Ten seconds of silence, then she said, "OK, thank you," and hung up. I got the confirmation email for the callback interview a few minutes later.
I thought it was a legitimate answer to give but apparently not. Should I even show up?

Wow. I legitimately laughed for a while at this. Jesus Christ.
You should still show up, I mean because who knows what could happen. But holy fuck what a retarded thing to say.

If this isn't a flame, I would email her, tell her you're afraid you mis-spoke, and you meant you OF COURSE meant you didn't have a preference.

Protip: remember not to wear your Confederate flag lapel pin to the callback.

I want to feel sorry for you because I'm socially awkward and misspeak all the time, but I just can't.Anonymous User wrote:I got a call after an OCI which I let go to voicemail, telling me to call the recruitment desk to setup a callback interview. They were trying to find out if he was gay or a minority. But yes, the formulation was awkward.Anonymous User wrote:Although that was the exact wrong answer, what a weird fucking question.

If I were LGBT, I would want to talk to someone at the firm who shares that to get a sense of how it's treated there culturally.
