Contact an attorney for each preselect?
Should I contact an alum for each firm I have a preselect interview?

It's a little premature. I don't know what you'd get out of it really.
Why should any given lawyer have more loyalty to you than any other student preselected from your school? And at the screening interview stage, it isn't very likely they have some kind of inside info that could help you.
But sure, if you really want to. Not much value to be had IMO.

plus the name drop during the screener makes you sound a little more on your game
but all in all it's not gonna make or break you, so just do it if you feel like it

What would you say to an alum at the firm before the screener? Just inquire about the firm? And then name drop your interactions with the alum in the screener?

Talking with someone at the firm can help you formulate an answer to "why this firm" question.

TITCR. I at least talked to a student who SAed at each firm I have an OCI with, and it definitely helped set up the "why x firm" answer.
