Have any dukies that haven't had much luck so far gone to talk to CSO? Were they helpful/give any advice that you couldn't get here? I have one friend who did (with BE) and didn't seem to get a benefit from it.

Anyone have a feel for how our class is doing? I know a lot of people with offers, but then again, I'm sure people with offers are more noticeable than those without.

I'm wondering the same thing. Anecdotally, I'd say more than 80% of my friends have at least one offer at this point. But, it is true that people with offers or more likely to share that fact than people without offers. Also, there might be a self-selection bias at play among my friend group.Anonymous User wrote:Anyone have a feel for how our class is doing? I'm the opposite. I'd say most of my friends are still waiting. I guess all the successful people naturally hang out together.Anonymous User wrote:I'm wondering the same thing. It's a struggle, but above-median grades seem to be competitive. All of my friends are above median (some more than others), and 5/6 have offers. (The last one is still waiting on the results of a few callbacks). Granted, a few of us didn't fare as well as we thought we would (e.g. regional biglaw instead of major market Vault firm), but you can't complain too much with an offer in hand.Anonymous User wrote:Anyone have a feel for how our class is doing? 100% of the class is above median until you check their transcripts.Anonymous User wrote:It's a struggle, but above-median grades seem to be competitive. Are you suggesting everyone below median lies about their grades?

Everyone below median doesn't lie, but that still leaves a lot of room for creative license. What is median anyway? 3.3? 3.4? 3.29877? Lots of rumors go around, but the undisputed number never gets out. Maybe the person who told you his status heard that median this year was 3.25. Maybe you heard he him say above median, but he actually said he was "at" or "around" median. Is a 3.29 at median? Is a 3.22 around median? Are you even talking to all the people below median about grades? Add to this that the number of GPAs within a tenth of 3.3 is very high and that the true median is, again, unknown. All of this fuzziness allows most people to say whatever they want and still believe what they said was true.Anonymous User wrote:Are you suggesting everyone below median lies about their grades?
It's worth pointing out that all of this is by design. Employers, like law schools, have to weed out a lot of applicants. For firms, the top half of the class is a popular figure, but how do you make an exact cutoff if you don't know the median? Unfortunately for us, the answer isn't usually "you don't," but that's a story for another day.

Anyone have a sense of how the class faired overall now that most biglaw SA positions are wrapped up?

Re: OCI - Duke Class 2014 - here we go
I just tried to count and got to 16 people in my 1L section that have desirable SAs that I know of. Two people I don't know outcomes for are on DLJ (so probably good). Two more are die hard PI. Doesn't seem too bad...

Any update on this since the OCI SA hunt/callback time frame is wrapped up for the most part?Anonymous User wrote:Anyone have a sense of how the class faired overall now that most biglaw SA positions are wrapped up?

Re: OCI - Duke Class 2014 - here we go
I can only speak anecdotally, but everyone I know has a job lined up this summer - which is a much better outcome than originally anticipated (as OCI seemed a little rockier this year). My friends and I all got biglaw. (For reference, we're all median and above.) I can think of one or two people who wanted biglaw and didn't get it, but they tended to end up with gov/PI or midlaw. Of course, those who didn't do well probably aren't broadcasting their lack of success, so take this for what you will. But of those whose outcome I know, everyone seemed to do all right.Anonymous User wrote:Any update on this since the OCI SA hunt/callback time frame is wrapped up for the most part?Anonymous User wrote:Anyone have a sense of how the class faired overall now that most biglaw SA positions are wrapped up?
