I'll be mass mailing firms in my market over the next couple weeks for 2013 SA positions. However, I will be working at a small firm as a law clerk this fall and probably spring. Would it be a good or bad idea to list this job on my resume if I haven't started it yet? If I should list it, how would I format it on my resume if it won't begin until September?
On one hand, I'm thinking that a bigger firm in my market would appreciate the fact that I will be getting civil litigation firm experience this fall. On the other hand, would they think I am not worth interviewing because if I prove to be a productive employee, then the firm I will be working for in the fall will offer me a summer position (I hope this makes sense)?
Thanks.

If the job is guaranteed, you're just waiting to start, then yes, list it.
Format should be something like:
Face & Murdoch
Fall Clerk, September 2012 - December 2012
• Fall Clerk
Don't put anything for what you think you'll be doing.

When I've done this in the past I usually put "forthcoming" to make it clear that I haven't started. It's pretty obvious once you read what you have but if someone skims and doesn't see the date they might assume you've already worked there. Not really a big deal just a suggestion.barestin wrote:Thanks, appreciate it. Yes, it's guaranteed.kalvano wrote:If the job is guaranteed, you're just waiting to start, then yes, list it.
