"Enjoy dla piper" came from the time where everyone got BigLaw, and so someone having to settle for dla piper from a T14 school was basically the mark of sucking at life.

The problem isn't that they have a ton of offices in "crappy cities" (whatever those are), the problem is that they are a firm without a home market or any city where they are anywhere close to the "best." They are basically second-rate everywhere. The only office that strikes me as pretty good is the San Diego office. It is what used to be Gray Cary, one of the old-line San Diego-based firms.
