just to be clear...
Just to be clear, clifford chance--one of the world's leading law firms, with 34 offices in 24 countries and some 3,200 legal advisers--plans to hire 3 summer associates. Am I right?

You're looking at the form for one of their smaller branch offices instead of their major office, or else CC (which is a UK firm IIRC) isn't planning on doing much U.S. hiring.
Your link is broken so I can't tell for sure.

Maybe. Is it unusual that they don't have a NY office NALP firm?

That's just dc, which only has 49 attorneys total. They don't have a NALP form for the other offices so it's an unknown.

I don't know but I wouldn't find it surprising. Last year SNR Denton's NY office was only hiring 2, maybe 3, SA's - all for lit.

Re: just to be clear...
Last year, dla piper, with 4,500 lawyers worldwide, planned to hire 30-35 SAs in the US. Baker McKenzie planned to hire about 24. Part of this is because they don't hire Americans into their Kazah office at 160,000, so those offices don't have SA programs. Another part of it is that they hire most of their talent through the lateral market. A third part of it is that clients won't pay for new associates to be trained on their matters. Therefore, these mega firms need far fewer SAs than you would expect. I don't know CC DC's situation, but 2-3 summers for an office of 49 lawyers seems at the high end of what I've heard. According to my contact at Duane Morris last year, the 700 lawyer firm intended to hire 7-8 SAs in total.

I have their data from before the NALP update - 17 SAs for NY office.
