Unemployment after SA
Has anyone done this? Should you wait for an offer first?

Maybe it's just me, but I'm not really sure what you are asking.

Re: Unemployment after SA
From someone that has laid off tons of people -- you need 6 months of work to collect benefits. You also need a lay off. My recollection was that we (the employer) had to pay a portion of the unemployment payments, so we had a reason to call and dispute whether you met the criteria.

Why ask us? Apply and let us know how it all works out. I'm not sure asking one of the partner's at your firm for advice is a good plan, but go for it if it makes you happy. I bet the HR people will be happy to have to deal with your unemployment claim and no one will look down on you for doing it.ben4847 wrote:That period is different in different states.

I just checked New York, and it has a similar time period, but their formula is much more complicated. You also need to certify evfery week that you are actively seeking work. They ask you if you're in school, and if you say yes you need to jump through more hoops to prove you can work full time.ben4847 wrote:That period is different in different states.

You have to be fired or laid off for unemployment, generally. Being a temporary employee won't count. Plus, you have to be actively looking for full-time work and not enrolled in a full-time educational program.

Sounds like a wonderful plan. I look forward to hearing about what happens when the law firm you just worked for and who compensated you well for that work, with the understanding that it was temporary, gets notice of your unemployment claim.ben4847 wrote:Temporary employment does count.kalvano wrote:You have to be fired or laid off for unemployment, generally.
