how does one delete one's TLS post history like GT L Rev?
How was GTL Rev able to delete his profile/post history? I've posted some things non-anonymously that I'd like to get removed. Nothing I've posted reflects poorly on me. I just have posted my opinion on certain things that some people might disagree with - esp. my opinion regarding certain firms.
Who do I have to ask? I understand I wrote the graffiti I did on this wall, and it's not TLS's obligation to clean it - but if there is an answer to this, I'd like to know. Replacing my posts with "." seems like a lot of work that you could just as easily have a "button" in place for.
Thanks.

It's probably easier to get mods to delete your existence like GTL Rev when you're GTL Rev.

that's cool, so all I need to do is get on the internet and post helpful stuff for like two years then?IAFG wrote:It's probably easier to get mods to delete your existence like GTL Rev when you're GTL Rev.

You probably need a good reason also. I doubt something like "I'm bored of TLS, delete all my posts" will suffice.

I've also heard you might successfully delete a large majority of your posts if you become a mod and drunkenly experiment with forum features.

Mods have said before that they don't really like to erase posters out of existence, particularly when the poster's only reason is having used poor judgment in what they post.Anonymous User wrote:that's cool, so all I need to do is get on the internet and post helpful stuff for like two years then?IAFG wrote:It's probably easier to get mods to delete your existence like GTL Rev when you're GTL Rev.
There have been exceptions, like someone worried an ex-wife would attempt to drag posts into a divorce proceeding. GTL Rev probably just got a "bitch, I'm GTL Rev" exception.

Go through your posts one by one and edit them to be nothing. An admin told me (in person) that TLS won't do it for you. I kind of wish TLS would switch policies now that many posters whose identities are known by dozens of other people are headed into the real world. All it takes is one douchebag to connect someone's posting history with his real name, and even though that gets moderated here, it may not be removed on ATL comments, on AutoAdmit, etc.

Instead of changing the policy to deleting people, maybe they should just say at sign-up "don't post shit non-anon you wouldn't want associated with you later." Because that's really their bottom line.Cavalier wrote:Go through your posts one by one and edit them to be nothing. An admin told me (in person) that TLS won't do it for you. I would certainly hope that, in the event some asshole actually decided to out me on third party websites, the mods would be willing to erase everything. Although just to be safe I'll probably spend the hours wiping everything myself after the bar.

People would do it regardless of the nature of their posts just to cover their asses. Some of the best advice/info comes from posts that are 2-3+ years old, and a lot of them would be wiped out. Maybe ?

This, in addition to the fact that it would go directly against our policy of trying to institutionalize the knowledge of the on-topics. If people can hang out for a couple of years and use TLS while it's helpful to them, then delete their accounts and move on, it destroys that process.Bildungsroman wrote:Moral hazard.Cavalier wrote:Go through your posts one by one and edit them to be nothing. Our policy is no deletions. In EXTREMELY RARE circumstances (usually around once per year) we will make exceptions to that policy.
Also why the hell would you need to post this anon?

This. And really this is a lesson to anyone who doesn't at least think before they post something. I have never once written anything on here that I would be ashamed to admit to or have associated with me because even on an anonymous message board people find out who you are. The TLS policy seems to be the only way to ensure that good advice stays (and I think we're all happy that we can utilize posts from years ago that help LSAT studying, applications, etc.) and to force people to police themselves in terms of writing abhorrent things here.IAFG wrote:Instead of changing the policy to deleting people, maybe they should just say at sign-up "don't post shit non-anon you wouldn't want associated with you later." I'll also note that we've done other things to accommodate these sorts of concerns without creating a moral hazard. For example, posts in the Lounge aren't indexed on Google. OP, I'm outing your post because anon is completely unnecessary here. Anon use is solely for those instances when your post ties specific, identifying information to your account and could potentially put you at risk of outing.
