Anyone have any advice on my bid list? 3.6 @ NYU, some W/E, subpar interview skills.
I'm interested in corporate work, leaning M&A, but I'm not positive. I'm also really interested in VC / emerging tech startups, hence the first two bids and the smattering of SV firms. I don't have ties to SV, but do have ties to LA.
Thanks in advance for any and all advice, I really appreciate it!

Re: 3.6 @ NYU - Bid List Critique?
Cut out Wachtell, no real shot. You'll be on the cusp of S&C's grade range, so you can take em or leave em. I'd take out cadwalader based on reputation/word of mouth. Other than that your list looks fine and your grades should put you someplace nice despite your weak interviewing. Despite my last sentence, you should still take many practice interviews with ocs and whomever will help to boost your chances at your favorite shots.Anonymous User wrote:Anyone have any advice on my bid list? 3.6 @ NYU, some W/E, subpar interview skills.

Re: 3.6 @ NYU - Bid List Critique?
If you're actually at a 3.6 or above (not rounding), S&C is totally worth it. They give an offer to pretty much everyone above 3.6.
Also, even if you really want VC, Wilson Sonsini and Gunderson Dettmer do not need to be in your top ten bids to get an interview. I would put them in the high single digits, leaving Skadden, Kirkland, Weil, Latham, Ropes and GDC at the very least ahead of them. In particular, you'll need to bid Ropes higher than 8 to get an interview. I would also bid the top-tier group of firms you have on here (S&C to Cravath) somewhat higher to ensure you get interviews, maybe at 20 or so. Some did not fill up last year until free sign up (Cleary), but others went around #25-30 or so, and it's hard to predict how low you can go with those (and those are all firms where you are competitive, so you don't want to risk missing out).

Re: 3.6 @ NYU - Bid List Critique?
I agree with all of this but also just wanted to say that I think this is otherwise a very good bid list. You should end up with a good mix of firms. I think you might not get Akin, Milbank, and Cadwalader where you have them, but you can't get em all and honestly with a 3.6 you'll have plenty of safety firms. Might consider swapping, say, Milbank/Akin with Dechert/MLB but that's just me, I'd rather have interviews at the former than the latter.Anonymous User wrote:If you're actually at a 3.6 or above (not rounding), S&C is totally worth it.
