does anyone accept at lower tiered choices like Proskauer, Cadwalader and Fried Frank over CSM and DPW just because they like them better, or is that sort of unheard of?

Re: Columbia EIP 2012 Superthread
CLS 3L here - After spending a summer at a V10, I've come to realize how silly the Vault rankings are. You should pick a firm that has a good reputation in the practice area you're interested in, combined with fit - how well you liked the people you met. For example: Fried Frank has a great Real Estate practice, Cadwalader does some interesting securities work, etc. and you wouldn't be silly to pick those firms over Cleary or DP if you wanted to do that type of work. Similarly, there are firms ranked 20+ that have good reputations in terms of culture (Ropes and Willkie both come to mind) that might be worth considering. Working in BigLaw is all about finding a place you wouldn't mind staying at for a couple of years, and getting interesting enough work that you set yourself up with exit options when and if you decide to leave.Anonymous User wrote:does anyone accept at lower tiered choices like Proskauer, Cadwalader and Fried Frank over CSM and DPW just because they like them better, or is that sort of unheard of?
I'm not saying pick an unranked firm over DP, but I'd urge you to pick on fit and go a little further past the rankings when deciding on a firm. Fit is a very important factor that many students overlook because they take the Vault rankings as gospel as opposed to a rough guide. Good luck to you!

Does anyone know if WSGR's California offices have started doing callbacks? They interviewed on day 1 of EIP, but I have not heard of any callbacks from them.
