Help me out - bid list 3.51 (3.3 median) lower t-14

Post by Anonymous User » Tue Jun 19, 2012 8:27 pm

Kinda lost doing the bid list. Have done research but it hasn't given me a good feel for my odds at each firm and how that should affect my bidding. Some TLS help would be great. 3.51 w/ 3.3 median at a lower t-14 (~ top 1/3, maybe higher idk). K-JD. Goal: make sure I get an offer. Interested in litigation. All offices NYC (except the one I noted), looked at the size of the litigation department, expected SA class size and w/e info on selectivity I could find. Hoping to maximize the amount of interviews I can get (and generally odds of landing an offer). My list is one short. I threw in hogan lovells, Linklaters, clifford chance, and Hughes Hubbard but don't really have much of an idea about their selectivity. Any feed back would be great, I feel I may be overbidding especially in 6-10 range. Thanks.

Take out S&C. They are extremely grade sensitive and even that low, it's probably a waste of a bid.

Agree with this. Cravath, Cleary, Simpson, Latham, Skadden, Davis, Debevoise, maybe Weil should likely come off too.

Firms worth considering (this is a mostly-lit list, but generally firms w/good reputations that you seem to have missed):

Kramer Levin
Willkie
Kronish Lieb
Kaye Scholer
Schulte
Mayer Brown
Kasowitz Benson
Greenberg Traurig
O'Melveny (only if you're desperate)
Cooley
Chadbourne
Freshfields
Richards Kibbe
Bingham
Cadwalader
Hughes Hubbard

OP school is duke.

Cooley is expecting 6 SAs so thought that wasn't a great use of a bid. Have Cadwalader. O'Melveny has only DC/CA offices coming. Where would you put Kasowitz and Hughes Hubbard? The rest aren't coming as far as I am aware.

Wouldn't 3.51 put you in the top quarter at Duke? Clearly, Weil, STB all seem worth a bid. S&C off, probably same with Cravath.

OP here. It could but I honestly don't know for sure. If not, I should be pretty close to it.

Gonna replace Cravath/S&C with Stroock and Sweard. Probably throw on Sutherland. Any ideas for location?

Updated the bid list based on suggestions here as well as the amount of interview slots available. Would still appreciate some feedback. :)

What's wrong with O'Melveny? I lived in Asia before law school and liked how much of their practice seems to deal with east Asia. Is there a problem with this firm? It was my #1 bid (3.70ish/3.3 median, just outside T14).
