Re: Quinn Emanuel?
I love that Urquhart graduated cum laude from Fordham, landed Cravath out of law school, and now is a name partner (and hiring partner) at a very law-school-ranking cognizant firm. If he graduated today he wouldn’t land NLJ 250. You’d think that if anyone understood that great attorneys could come from anywhere, it would be him. Not that I have a problem with grade and school consciousness as a way to whittle down the stack of resumes, I just find it funny. I also like his pose in his law firm bio picture.Anonymous User wrote:A year old interview with William Urquhart says they only hire the top 10% of a class (unless it's Harvard or Yale) O_O

Also got one. Is this actually a CB? Mine made it sound informal (come meet with some of our attorneys).Anonymous User wrote:Nice, congrats.Anonymous User wrote:MVP, top 5%, LR, good WEAnonymous User wrote:Stats?Anonymous User wrote:DC callbacks going out now via email.

I am under the impression that this is the real thing. The tone of the email is consistent with their informal culture. Mind sharing your stats?Anonymous User wrote:Also got one. To add to the stats collected so far: interview invite from NY office. Top 5%ish at a T14, no word on LR yet.

Any thoughts on whether to indicate on their "Flyback Survey" that you're interested in another office as well? I'm interested in their DC office as well but I don't want to seem disinterested in the office I'm interviewing with.

dont ask/express interest in other offices until you have an offer. then, before you accept, ask if you can split with DCAnonymous User wrote:Any thoughts on whether to indicate on their "Flyback Survey" that you're interested in another office as well? I went in a suit, no tie. Was told that's how most people show up, though you absolutely would be fine in just slacks and a collared shirt if you'd rather do that.Anonymous User wrote:FYI - the callback confirmation email recommends business casualAnonymous User wrote:Did y'all go with biz casual / formal / casual for the interview?

This totally fits in with the firm's personality though. Admittedly I interviewed for them back in 2009 so things may have changed, but I doubt it. One of my friends (at CCN) interviewed at EIP and Urquhart was at his interview. Urquhart greeted my friend warmly and then immediately asked for my friend's grades, which he provided. (They were not in the top 20%.) Urquhart read the grades, and then got up from his seat and left the room without a word. Needless to say my friend did not get a callback. Obnoxious, IMO, but then again I think that style really appeals to some.Anonymous User wrote:I love that Urquhart graduated cum laude from Fordham, landed Cravath out of law school, and now is a name partner (and hiring partner) at a very law-school-ranking cognizant firm. Re: Quinn Emanuel?
I think that the story was on Above the Law or TLS at the time. It does appeal to some people - the people who are big enough jerks to do the same thing. Add to that the fact that for all the bluster, the real cream of the crop wouldn't put up with their nonsense (ugly offices, crazy workload, worship of Quinn and Sullivan) and the image is not as baller as it seems.Loose Seal wrote:This totally fits in with the firm's personality though.
