Suit for WLRK interview
Maybe a silly question, but while I know it's a super long shot no matter who you are, my grades give me some shot for WLRK. I only have two suits: a lightish gray and a darkish blue (but not navy) with a fairly subtle pattern. They're decently nice and both fit very slimly, as I am a skinny guy (BOSS red label or whatever they call it). I have read over and over that WLRK is a very conservative firm, and figured I would ask whether I should be buying a slightly more conservative navy suit before OCI. People here stress to buy navy and charcoal but that it's not necessary to buy one of these if you already have other perfectly fine suits. But I am wondering if I should still follow this advice.
I would /prefer/ not to buy another suit right now, especially considering most firms I'll be applying to are business casual and I am a little worried about fitting into any suit I buy now long-term (because they're feeding us a whole lot at my SA this summer), but really don't want to sacrifice any WLRK chances. Asking now because it'll take time to buy a suit if necessary. Thoughts?

Gray suit is similar to this:Bildungsroman wrote:Post pictures of both suits.

Blue I can't find online ATM and picture-taking in my room doesn't remotely show what it looks like. But fits similarly, is Ben Sherman and dark blue (but blue blue, not navy)...it's got subtle alternating darker and lighter blue stripes each about a centimeter thick, that's the pattern.

You're at a firm this summer. You're legal career is dependent on the next couple months. Save up some money or just take one of your paychecks and buy one great dark grey or navy suit. Your going to be able to be use good suits in your future. Get the perfect one. Don't be cheap. Don't leave anything to chance. Its chump change compared to the amount of money the interview represents.

Won't be able to use it if I gain weight, and my summer income is all about lessening the loan burden. But good input, thanks.Law Sauce wrote:You're at a firm this summer. Sales are on at BB and Nordstrom right now. Go get another suit.
I don't think it will make or break your interview, but the fact that you are worrying about it makes me think the confidence boost of being comfortable is worth it.

WLRK is a nerdier firm. I think you should go for BB, maybe even with pleats.

Re: Suit for WLRK interview
I have two suits from there that fit well and are so obviously higher quality than most of my classmates' suits that I think some of them have to be buying at like Sears or something. I know people make fun of the place but I'm really happy with the quality and the way the suits fit.rad lulz wrote:Go to Jos. A. Bank bro. Let the haberdashers there unleash your inner alpha.

Neither of those suits is really appropriate for a biglaw interview. One is light grey and the other has patterns.

Unfortunately nothing in my size on sale at BB or Nordstrom. I don't lack confidence in my suits, but you might be right anyway..bdubs wrote:Sales are on at BB and Nordstrom right now. Go get another suit.

OCS told me I looked fine during 1L OCI when I was a little bit apprehensive. Not that I really trust them for anything, of course...Veyron wrote:Neither of those suits is really appropriate for a biglaw interview. One is light grey and the other has patterns.

I think BB sale starts tomorrow. Did you actually go to Nordstrom? The sale is mainly in store, not online.Anonymous User wrote:Unfortunately nothing in my size on sale at BB or Nordstrom. If this were a Susman interview, I'd say opt for the lightish grey OFS. If it were Boies Schiller: well, even an idiot would tell you you're better off with the darkish blue.
Since it's WLRK, I'd say wear the grey pants with the blue coat.

BB site seems to reflect a bigtime sale. Good to know about Nordstrom, though unfortunately not near a full store. I am near a Rack and was in the other day...was only looking for a Boss navy suit (was there for other reasons) so didn't conduct an exhaustive search, but there wasn't much in my size.bdubs wrote:I think BB sale starts tomorrow. Nordstrom just had the semi-annual men's sale, but they're going to have their anniversary sale on the 20th of July, I believe.Anonymous User wrote:BB site seems to reflect a bigtime sale. BTW, Boss suits aren't really that great (unless it's listed as Hugo Boss Selection). Most of them, IIRC, are fused... you probably want to get half-canvassed at least (the BB 1818 collection is).

Unless your browser is a time machine to 8 hours from now, BB sale starts tomorrow. It's usually 40% off everything, for suiting.Anonymous User wrote:

Re: Suit for WLRK interview
Good to know, thanks. Unfortunately July 20th is a little late to order and tailor a suit, considering I'll have to get it shipped. And interesting regarding the Boss, the Rack guy who sold it to me was big on it and it felt nice to me. Oh, well. I guess I'll look more into this BB sale.Bronck wrote:Nordstrom just had the semi-annual men's sale, but they're going to have their anniversary sale on the 20th of July, I believe.Anonymous User wrote:BB site seems to reflect a bigtime sale. Re: Suit for WLRK interview
I doubt people at the Rack really know much about suit quality, tbh. Would it still work for the interviews? Sure, but you might as well invest a little more now to get a better suit.Anonymous User wrote:Good to know, thanks.
