Gibson, Ropes & Latham from Fordham

Post by Anonymous User » Thu Jun 14, 2012 10:13 pm

Approximately top 15% from Fordham. I'm trying to be relatively conservative in my bidding. Should I bother bidding on Gibson, Ropes or Latham? Thanks.

Gibson and Ropes require very high grades. Latham is a very reasonable bid though.

You will be fine at Ropes for at least the first round interview.

Although they like good grades, they are a huge "fit" firm. Good personality will go a long way.

Really? My understanding was that Latham's grade cuts, if anything, were higher than Gibson and Ropes

At least from NYU I'd think they're all about the same (maybe Gibson a bit lower than Ropes/Latham, if anything).

At Cornell Gibson is by far the highest of those three. I would say Gibson no way.

GRL is a powerhouse firm. The merger was sneaky.

I would love if law firms actually used "or" instead of the "and" or "&" in their names, ha ha.

It would actually be more accurate in light of how firms are more like collections of individuals these days rather than collectives like they used to be.

Probably none of them.

Not sure where top 15% is, but if you are below a 3.5, definitely don't bid on any of them.

If you have above a 3.5, Latham might be possible, but still a big stretch. Wouldn't bid on the other two if outside the top 10%.

Thanks for the feedback. Any thoughts on O'Melveny and Meyers and Mayer Brown? I'm at a 3.5 btw.

Friend of mine at Fordham was top 10% and LR (I don't know where a 3.5 puts you) got offers at O'Melveny and Orrick.

Mayer, I think they are a little grade snooty? But that could just be the DC office.
