I think that Kirkland and Sidley should be on your list. While you are probably under the median call back GPA (I actually just don't know this but am guessing) those are the two firms with the largest summer classes in chicago and have been known to take people with GPAs in that range as a part of their summer classes.
Same Anon here...should they be high enough so as to actually land an interview (i.e. top-3) or just on the list so I can hustle them at hospitality suites? Scared to death not to include enough safe/targets

I don't think you are likely to get an interview or callback from a hospitality suite with them because your ability to land a job at that firm is showing that you have a great personality/story to tell, and you can't do that through a hospitality suite. I hear that Kirkland added a bunch of interview slots this year so you may not have to bid them as high as in previous years (but you should confirm that). Otherwise I would say that if you add them you probably need to add them in a place where you will get a screener with them.

So you can change them...over and over and over again!

I keep thinking, man the New Mexico market is wide-open, I should add it!

Thoughts? I'm still trying to work out where to bid on things based on interview slots. Is general wisdom the more slots, the lower you can bid and still get it? How low should Kirkland with 160 spots be in that case? Winston only has 40, are they OK at 4?

Except that I think you should remove any and all firms that I'm bidding on, it looks about right to me. Morgan Lewis' Chicago office is more heavily tilted to Labor & EMployment than lit.

If I bid on Chicago firms at the CCBA Minority Job Fair and was not pre-selected by them, does that basically mean I have no chance, or should I still bid on them at OCI like nothing ever happened?

You should still bid on them. CCBA has a very limited number of interview spots and you don't know the credentials of the other people you are bidding against.

How do my top 20 look? This is actually way harder than anticipated. Unless indicated I'm shooting for NYC and east coast. 8 years W/E, from northeast originally. Not conservative enough?

Did we all fill out the FERPA form at the OCI orientation thing in the spring? I seem to remember filling it out then or in the fall before 1L OCI...if we were able to do 1L OCI does that mean we're good to go FERPA-wise or should I drop one off on Monday?

No shot at Wilmer DC. Shot at everywhere else, though V10 NYC is a reach. But too aggressive. Need more targets and safeties in top 15. DPW, Cravath, Simpson, etc, will barely fill up. Can bid them into the 20's.

What do you define as a target/safety? Right at or slightly above/below (like .05 in either direction) median?

For instance, someone with a 3.7 - are places like Jenner, McDermott targets or reaches? Katten a safety?

Greenberg says they only want top 15%...not sure if they mean it though.

Disregard the Symplicity blurbs saying "top 15%" or whatever completely. They're complete nonsense. I swear firms use the same blurbs for U Chicago/NU/Loyola.

Any thoughts on how low KandE can be bid with the 160 interview spots?

I have noticed a trend with you Flips, and I think maybe if you took up yoga you would be better able to handle all the waiting we have to do.

A little caveat about "safety" firms: this is not law school admissions. Just because you are above a call back median or near the high end does not mean you will get a call back there and certainly does not mean that you will get an offer there. The only "numbers game" law firms play is targeting a certain size summer class and offering people that impressed them (via interview and academic performance) accounting for a certain amount of people to decline the offer. While I think OCI is a little more numbers driven, it is certainly not so much that you can use the term "safety" with respect to any firm.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
