Private Equity Jobs?
Just finished 2L year, School is ranked in the 40's, slightly above median grades. I have an option to work with a private equity outfit for the summer (mostly due diligence type stuff), and I'm mostly concerned with what this will do to my employment search once I finish law school. I'm interested in corporate law, but had no shot at a top firm through OCI, and my only real options are shit law. I am starting to get realistic that next year I may not have many options when it comes to legal employment. Should I be happy to have this job, and hope it turns into something I could do once I graduate? Can I spin this experience into a positive to future law firms, or is it basically a black mark on my resume? Thanks everyone.

You'll be doing legal work under their attorneys, or you'll be photocopying papers under their secretaries?
If you're doing legal work under their attorneys, it seems pretty legit. Due diligence is quite a bit of what junior associates do.

If you're interested in corporate law, working in PE, even in a non-firm capacity, would be great experience. I think shitlaw would be a far bigger stain on your resume than a PE gig.

dude...even Biglaw attorneys will ditch legal work for a shot at PE. There are Biglaw partners who just want to get into PE. Take the job or give it to me, because I'm staring in the face of shitlaw too.
