Conundrum; 1L summer
Issue: part time internship offered with USAO, part time externship offered local firm. Both unpaid, both accepted. Just got part time offer of paid employment at local firm. Externship was set up for me by professor. I want the paid employment more, but I don't want to burn bridges. Suggestions?

Tell the part-time firm that isn't paying you to take a hike. No free labor for them.

Go talk to the prof, see if you can change the dates around to fit it in anyway.

remind him that there are labor laws in the US that say you cannot pay individuals to do value added work without compensation.Anonymous User wrote:Op here: what about pissing off the prof that set it up?romothesavior wrote:Tell the part-time firm that isn't paying you to take a hike. Lawyers need to have difficult conversations sometimes. Turning down an unpaid part time law firm job is not one of them. Just be like, sorry, the promise isn't supported by consideration.
