0L phone interview with large law firm

Post by Anonymous User » Thu Apr 19, 2012 8:03 pm

I met a senior associate at a large law firm at a networking event while visiting a law school. I got her business card, followed up with her about possible summer opportunities/longer ones worth deferring law school for...She said she would be more than willing to help me out and speak with me on the phone.

Although I've met her and spoken with her in person, I'm nervous about my phone call. Should I stalk her/the firm incessantly to know what exactly to ask? Do firms even usually have opportunities for 0L students??? How can I get the most out of this phone call?? The fact that she offered to set up a time to talk is good news right?

P.S. Posted here because didn't know where else this would go

Also by positions I'm thinking legal assistant/paralegal positions...stuff like that but where I'd still have exposure to the legal field

Also, am I being too cocky in being proud of myself for networking before law school? LOL...jk...kinda

you probably did already, but if not, look up the firm, practice area, and her profile. that's probably about all you need. you're a 0L so she probably doesn't expect much out of you. She'll probably just ask typical questions like why you're interested in law, do you plan on going to law school and why, maybe stuff about your resume etc. Take the time to ask her questions about her law school experience and how she got to where she is. whether she enjoys the firm and what she finds interesting about the work she does. what sort of advice she would like to give to someone interested in going to law school. lawyers usually like to chat about this stuff.
