how long to wait?

Post by Anonymous User » Tue Mar 20, 2012 3:46 pm

Applied at a small firm. Things seemed to be going well. Was told it might take a few days to get back to me. After 10 days I called and left a message for the partner I talked to before. Now 11 days, still no call back.

Considering applying to other small firms in the same area of law. But if my gut feeling was that I was going to get the job, how long should I wait before I give up on them?

Small market.

Is this for an SA or full time? Please tell me you didn't only apply to one firm...

OP here:

Part time position. Already have a part time unpaid internship which is going to be amazing. But I wanted something paid as well. Had a friend pull strings to get me an interview, which I thought went well. Because of the friend I have not applied for any other small firms yet, since that person had to put a little rep on the line for me.

Not too worried about applying at other small firms this month, most don't hire until next month... but if I am going to do it, I should probably do it this week.

you pretty much did all that you could so far. i guess it's safe to assume that you didn't get the gig and move on. however, until you hear a rejection, there is still hope. Maybe you can give them a call back next week to get some sort of closure. good luck, and i hope you get a pleasant phone call from em!

Don't call again. I had a similar situation and got an offer after about three weeks. Whether or not they are interested, multiple phone calls won't help your chances. It's probably a partner decision, and they haven't been able to meet about it yet.
