Second Circuit Staff Attorney Positions

Post by Anonymous User » Tue Jan 31, 2012 1:24 pm

Has anybody heard back from their interviews? Mine was a few months ago and they said nothing.

It seems Final Rounds will conclude next Tuesday with decisions by the end of the month. Does anyone have thoughts on this position?

I had my initial interview back in September, and just got a rejection letter in the mail a couple of weeks ago.

Overall, the position would likely be interesting but the pay is very low for NYC, and the exit options are kind of...awkward

Is this the same for the immigration unit that final rounds interviews end next week?

Anyone hear back yet? I'm guessing offers will roll in by the end of this week. Any thoughts?

Who knows. They could have already made offers for all I know...

Myself and my friend both had final interviews. Late last week we both had references requested and called. No word yet. With so many data points and zero offers, I'm guessing no offers have been extended yet. Elizabeth said the judges (Jacobs?) have to sign off on their selections, so there's some structural delay.

I had references called as well. Usually an encouraging sign. However, as previous posts suggest, it appears that the second circuit calls many individual's references and does not extend an offer. Anybody have any idea how many positions are available?

I wonder if that 8 includes the Immigration Unit as well as the Appeals & Motions Unit

This was the post I was referring to, as they mentioned "reference checks"--although it is possible they meant reference requests and not actual phone calls. One of my references also asked about the status of the process and was told that it was narrowed down to just under 20 people. Then again, this is all hearsay...

ah ok, you said it appears they call "many" applicants' references and then reject them, so I thought you might have seen more people claiming this happeend to them. i know at least some of mine have been checked but i've also heard nothing.

Yeah, sorry about that. "Many" was not the correct word choice based on one person's post! I think that was just the pessimist in me. Ultimately, actually having your references called is as good of a sign as you can get at this stage. Does anyone know of someone who has had this job and what they thought of it?

I'm hoping for at least an update on the timeline, especially if there is going to be any kind of lengthy budget-related delay

Yeah, some sort of update would be helpful. If we have to wait for the budget to be sorted out it's going to be a very long wait indeed.

I seem to remember that the office is moving back to the courthouse this week? That could disrupt things.
