Los Angeles District Attorney
Anyone have any insight on what the first interview is like for the Los Angeles DA office for a permanent deputy DA position? I haven't been able to figure out if they'll be giving out hypos or regular interview questions, since there is a second "selection interview" as well. Any advice is appreciated.

OP, are you talking hypothetically? Because I'm fairly certain that they aren't externally hiring at this moment.
Not sure what the hiring is like for LA, but I know for both Ventura and OC it's a 2-3 round interview process: regular screener (like every other job in the country), an oral examination where you are asked a series of hypos, and a final interview with the DA herself.

Re: Los Angeles District Attorney
The last selection consisted of what seems to be an initial screener, followed by something called a "selection interview" if you placed in the top two score bands. If I remember correctly, there is a meeting with the DA herself, which I've heard was just a formality of sorts. I think LADA is one of the most difficult to get (with regards to job security timing) since you had to have passed the bar already. I've heard of people who volunteered for a year or more not getting the position. That's got to hurt.

Reviving this thread for 2013 applications for DDA I positions (the application period that just ended earlier this month). Has anyone heard anything about first round interviews yet?

Where did you see these open DDA positions? When would the job start?

Re: Los Angeles District Attorney
The posts from 2012 must have been discussing limited hiring. There was an open application period in the winter of 2011 and any new hires between then and now have been from those that applied at that time.
The most recent open application period was Dec 2-13 of 2013. All new hires should be from this list. There may be additional hiring from the same list in the future (only basing this on how the hiring played out from 2011-2013).
I don't know exactly what is expected during the various interviews, but I do think a lot of people should get the first round interview because that is basically how they rank people on the list. Only the top candidates go on to the "selection interview." No idea on what % of people move on.

Still nothing from LA...
Nothing from Riverside either.
I'm assuming that they REALLY slowed down during the holidays, so they're catching up on work this week. Maybe we'll hear something next week...here's to hope!

Re: Los Angeles District Attorney
Got my letter today with my interview date.
Does anyone have any idea what the interview will be like? I know it's 20 minutes, but that's about it so far...

Got my interview letter today (out of state, so not surprised at the delay). Still, it went out quite a few days after the prior poster's must have. Might be helpful info for someone.

Anyone know how many rounds there are for the Los Angeles DA positions? I believe they should have completed all the first round interviews or will have by the end of this week.
Also if anyone knows how many applied/how many received first round interviews?

3 rounds. 1100+ apps, all receive first round interviews. 10-20 spots. That's a 1-2% chance of landing the job. After this year's hiring, they won't be hiring for another couple years, barring a miraculous increase in funding. So good luck to all and really have a backup plan because there are people who have clerked for LADA all throughout law school and still don't get the position. LADA isn't a place to apply to to get a job, it's a place to apply to when you already have a job. Most people they hire already have years of experience being an attorney.Anonymous User wrote:Anyone know how many rounds there are for the Los Angeles DA positions? How many people make it to the second round? And how do the scoring bands work? V and 1?Anonymous User wrote:3 rounds. 1100+ apps, all receive first round interviews. 10-20 spots. And does that mean those who are straight out of the law school have even less of a chance than 1-2%?
