1L whow doesn't know what to do with a PS offer
Hi guys,
Got an unpaid legal intern offer today from a small international NGO.
Still have 25+ apps out there. Some with firms (already had one phone interview with a big firm, but no news).
Questions:
How long can I politely take to make a decision?
As a 1L, does taking this internship over, say, a DOJ or firm position limit my future options at all?
I'm strongly considering doing work similar to what the small NGO does after I graduate, but I definitely do not want to limit my options this early in the game.
Thanks

How did you get the offer from the NGO? If it was email/mail, an email to them along the lines of "I appreciate the offer and am strongly considering it, but need to judge my (finances, moving, something) before I can decide. When do you need answer by?"Anonymous User wrote:Hi guys,

Yes via e-mail. It is not in the U.S. That makes sense about the reply and is pretty much what I'm planning to do. I just don't want to sound disinterested/uncommitted to their work, because it's awesome work.

I had several of these despite marginal credentials on my part and it did seem to be the case that international offers don't contain expiration dates like U.S. offers do. Just ask and they'll tell you.Anonymous User wrote:Yes via e-mail. It is not in the U.S. That makes sense about the reply and is pretty much what I'm planning to do. Most students don't really need to worry about maybe getting a firm job for 1L.
As far as future employment, there are only a couple of concerns.
A. If your resume reeks of Public interest but you really want private, try to do something other than public interest. (or the opposite if opposite)
B. If your resume reeks academia, don't RA for a professor.
C. If you want a certain city, it can strengthen your ties.
