NALP Q

Post by delusional » Thu Dec 22, 2011 10:30 am

So I'm looking at the NALP listings for firms that I want to apply to for 1L summer (mass mailing). Some of the information seems odd. Should I take NALP's word for it, and not apply to firms that either 1. Say that they don't hire 1Ls, or 2. Seem to not hire SAs at all?

If they say they don't hire 1L's take them at their word. If they say the hypothetically might, even though the NALP data shows they haven't done so in a while, they might be worth including in your mail merge

Lots of firms respond that they don't hire 1L's, but have hired 1Ls for the past 2 years. I am sending applications to these firms.

Your 2nd category tends to be very small offices of larger firms (just guessing). I would imagine these offices can't support a summer associate because they don't have the people to oversee them and/or the workflow to keep them busy. Probably not worth the effort to apply.
