how to get a job as a temp attorney

Post by lilmisskara » Wed Dec 07, 2011 5:15 pm

hello -- this is not a flame! i graduated in 2007 from a top school, worked as an associate at a top firm in nyc, hated it and quit last winter. then traveled around the world. now back and need some cash. i have a good enough resume to compete for a firm or inhouse job, but i don't want one. i want to sort out what i want from life (either to continue to practice law or perhaps go back to school), and make some boring cash in the meantime. not a single attorney i know from school or the firm has ever explored the temp route -- any advice/info would be helpful (do i sign up? is there a list of agencies available somewhere? is it difficult to get a position? how much does it pay?).

thanks in advance.

There are a lot of temp agencies; hirecounsel, kelly law, some others that I remember seeing but don't recall the names of. Quick google search should yield some results.

Let me know if you figure it out, I need one of these too. :(

It's pretty easy. Find a temp agency or eight, call them to set up a time to drop of your resume, profit. When firms have projects they contact the agency and the agency sends a bunch of resumes over. From those resumes, we select our contingent of people.

Edit: I don't have a list, but you can find references to lots of agencies at http://temporaryattorney.blogspot.com/

Oh wow. That blog is depressing. I really think I need to get off TLS for awhile and start thinking more positively. I'm really getting sad and nervous now.
