3Ls and Graduates: did your firm request 2L grades?
Yep it's that time of year when I really hope my firm doesn't. Let's get a comprehensive list going based on your past experiences.

Davis Polk had us fill out a form 2L spring year which authorized them to request a transcript directly from our law school. Aside from that, grades were never mentioned at any time. If I were a betting man I would say they didn't look. It certainly didn't factor into offer decisions.

I know a judge who doesn't even read the briefs before ruling. He just asks for counsel's GPA and uses that.

A buddy or mine had a buddy where the firm asked for his credit report. Heard he got no-offered. So I'd be on the look out for that, maybe pull your credit report.

Oh how I pray that grades aren't requested. The level of shits I give is so low that I'm scared to know what grades I will end up with. But seeing as my school pretty much doesn't give below B- (and even that only goes to the bottom 25% or so of the class). So I'm feeling like minimal prep should put me in that middle of the class hump with all the B's, and that this would be sufficient as not bottom out (which is really all they are looking for if they ask for your grades over the summer).

Thank you, thank you. Though perhaps not the best news for my pre-finals motivation.Anonymous User wrote:Summered at Covington, grades never came up post-OCI that I remember.Anonymous User wrote:I'll take a bite of this delicious paranoia apple.

What about for 3L OCI? Do 2L grades matter? I am worried that I might need to go to a different city (nyc) than where I will be summering (LA). I am pretty sure at this point that I will be looking to get back into NYC. I had top 5% at CCN 1L year.

DPW poster above, were there any other concerns about getting offers from last year's class?

Re: 3Ls and Graduates: did your firm request 2L grades?
I don't understand why people don't just ask someone at the firm. Last year, before I accepted my offer, I asked whether grades would be requested. It's a legitimate question and shouldn't land anyone in hot water. My asking certainly didn't ruffle any feathers because my grades dropped and I still got that full-time jerb offer. I mean, even if you're reluctant to ask the recruiting coordinator, just ask a junior associate - they're closest to your position now and would be able to tell whether or not the firm asked. Moreover, I doubt any fucks would be given by a junior for a future SA asking whether his/her grades would be requested.
I understand the paranoia, as I was bugging out last year, but for the vast majority of poasters ITT, your performance/social skills during the summer >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 2L/3L grades. Don't feel comfortable dropping 0.5, but even in the event that happens and the firm asks for your grades, your work product and ability to work with others will be far more important than whether you got a B-/A- on your federal courts exam.

Not at all. They acted from the first day like we were there to find where we'd fit best with the firm and constantly spoke of 'when we returned' to the firm, not if. It never felt like a test, and as far as I know everybody got offers at the end.Anonymous User wrote:DPW poster above, were there any other concerns about getting offers from last year's class?

Well said, and spoken like someone who has actually had a job before. This should be posted in every one of these threads.

I'd be more worried about having a miscarriage at Paul Hastings than your grades.Anonymous User wrote:anyone know anything about Paul Hasting NY
