Gibson DC vs. Kirkland DC vs. S&C NY
Interested in litigation, both general commercial and appellate. Lean toward DC but not set on it. Liked people about same at the DC firms; not as much the S&C crew. Thoughts?

This is pretty easy. If you can stand GDC (which I couldn't), then you should probably go there.

Curious why folks are weighing in with Kirkland DC?

Gibson is better in appellate lit, but Kirkland is better in commercial lit.Anonymous User wrote:Curious why folks are weighing in with Kirkland DC?

You've got 3 great options, so you can't go wrong. However, OP expressed a preference for DC so S&C probably doesn't make sense (assuming he doesn't really want to do securities litigation). Out of GDC and Kirkland, Kirkland pays more and has relatively balanced commercial and appellate groups. GDC is heavy on appellate but doesn't have as much commercial work in DC.Anonymous User wrote:Curious why folks are weighing in with Kirkland DC?

A) What kind of work assignment system are you looking for?
B) Do you want Commercial or Appellate lit more?
C) Which DC office did you like better?
Answer those questions and your choice is made.

For GDC DC, there's the obvious additional question: Are you conservative? Not important at most firms, or at other GDC offices, but GDC DC is a very conservative office strongly associated with the Republican Party. If you don't feel like you would fit in with that, it's probably not a great choice given other options not dissimilar in prestige. (On the flip side, if you are a conservative, especially if you might be interested in going into politics one day, it's easily the best option.)

Not sure if that's entirely accurate, given what other firms told me during my interview process this year.GDC ... doesn't have as much commercial work in DC.
