Firm you're going to vs. firm that you wanted
I was just wondering how people made out in terms of getting the firms that they wanted or whether they were dinged. I'll start it off...
The firm I wanted was Williams & Connolly. Got dinged after the callback.
I had to settle for Wilmer DC.

Wanted Skadden. Ended up with Davis Polk. Trying not to be too depressed over this, but it's hard.

I felt kind of the same way when I got Scalia instead of Sotomayor. Alas, the world keeps turning. Keep your chin up!Anonymous User wrote:Wanted Skadden. Ended up with Davis Polk. Trying not to be too depressed over this, but it's hard.

I am going to try to assume that OP is being sarcastic, given he typed "Firm your going to" lol, Wilmer will love you)...but if not, I hope you realize that while feeling depressed about not getting that super elite, selective firm and "settling" for some other V5 or V10 is perfectly normal, creating a thread to "lament" and brag about it in public...is pretty damned douchey.

Why should someone who is objectively successful be prevented from being ambitious, or expressing a certain level of disappointment with not satisfying that ambition?

your post is right on point, because, indeed, people here are trying to prevent OP from being ambitious. Good call.Aqualibrium wrote:Why should someone who is objectively successful be prevented from being ambitious, or expressing a certain level of disappointment with not satisfying that ambition?

OP here
WOW!
I didn't expect things to go like this. I wasn't trying to be a douche or anything. Just wanted to see if others out there had more luck getting the jobs they wanted.
Excuse me for being ambitious.

I wanted Skadden. Had to settle for Williams & Connolly. Thinking about /cutting self. Will people still like me as a person if I work at such a shit-hole?Anonymous User wrote:I was just wondering how people made out in terms of getting the firms that they wanted or whether they were dinged. My condolences on Wilmer DC. I'm sure other lawyers won't look down on you that much...

You know, I was planning to accept my offer from Wilmer, but after coming across this douche, I think I'll just go with dla piper instead.

Such an ambitious fellow as yourself is far above WilmerHale. How will you manage on a day to day basis interacting among such unambitious folk?Anonymous User wrote:OP here
