Jesus. The assistant told me there was a hiring committee meeting yesterday; I did a CB earlier this week, but didn't hear anything yesterday.

You managed to wrangle a Bass CB, but no other offers? Weird man. If you have any more CBs, make sure you figure out what went wrong with the first 5 so you can improve. That's a VERY low conversion rate. Well, good luck.

You don't have to be a bad interviewer to strike out. It's pretty easy to strike out these days. Lots of firms have small classes and callback a ton of people. 6 callbacks with 6 firms that are only hiring 5 people means you have a good chance of striking out. Back in 07 getting a callback was almost like getting offer. I had older friends that I was asking about the callback stage and they were like "oh yeah, once you get the callback its all over. Congratulations man". Its not like that anymore.

You don't have to be a bad interviewer to strike out. It's pretty easy to strike out these days. Lots of firms have small classes and callback a ton of people. 6 callbacks with 6 firms that are only hiring 5 people means you have a good chance of striking out. Yeah. I've only had one CB at a firm with a mega-class... and even they tend to CB a lot of people relative to other firms with mega-classes.

It's not about being a terrible interview. Sometimes it's not that you're putting people off, but you're not communicating something that's very important. I was doing terrible at the beginning of my cycle and I realized that I wasn't doing enough research and demonstrating enough knowledge of the interviewer, firm, and the firm's practice. It made me come off as less than credible. While I felt that I connected with the interviewer pretty well - and maybe they did genuinely like me - this sort of flaw prohibited me from making the short list (and short lists are indeed short these days).

So potentially: you are not communicating your ties very well. Maybe you don't seem very eager or excited to do this kind of work.
