"personal" reference

Post by Anonymous User » Mon Sep 05, 2011 10:43 pm

Firm asked for personal as well as professional references. Does personal mean school-related or can it be a family friend?

It really depends on the relationship with the family friend; they want someone who can speak to your character, so if a particular family friend has a great anecdote about how you tutored his son in calculus while you attended law school, great.

If you've volunteered with any organizations, your supervisor there would be another good one. Anyone you've done business with, professors, advisors, coaches, long-time neighbors, friends even -- those are all acceptable as well.

Just try to choose someone who will not only have glowing things to say about you but who can also back it up with some solid evidence, if you will ;)

Good luck!
