Transactional work is about working to make both parties better off; litigation is almost exactly the opposite.

"Aren't you tired of being lied to when you ask that question?"

This, pretty much. Interested in doing collaborative work. It's a chance to emphasize your ability and desire to work on a team. You can work in an anecdote about how you learned that transactional work exists as well (since very few people are familiar with it before working in a corporate environment or going to law school).

You like getting to know the client's business.

You like the idea of helping the client achieve something (more $$$$) and that it tends to build to something they need more than something they actually want to just get rid of (litigation).

You like getting into the details.

TITCR

Never say that you just don't want to be a litigator, etc. Even the zero-sum vs. non-zero-sum talk is a bit lacking. For one, it's not too realistic/accurate. Also, they hear that a lot.

Instead, talk about your interest in learning how businesses work. Talk about how M&A, Corporate Finance, etc all play to that interest, and how you would be fascinated by the work.

[Of course it helps if these things are true (they should be), as interviewers can often smell a lie, especially when you're talking about your passions...]
