Berkeley Law OCI
Surprised to see that this thread has not already been started. Figured it would be good to see which firms have begun giving callbacks.
So far I have heard from Cleary DC. Any other firms notifying students yet?

Re: Berkeley Law OCI
I think Orrick is notifying people as well. Just got a call form them saying they will not be giving me a callback. Weird that they do that...

Re: Berkeley Law OCI
Here is the current list from Nuts & Boalts:
Baker Botts, SV +
Bingham, LA +, SF +
Cleary Gottlieb, DC +/-, NY +/-
Cooley, NY +, SF +, SV +
Crowell & Moring, DC -
Davis Polk, NY +, SV +
Dewey & LeBoeuf, SF +
dla piper, SF +
Farella Braun, SF, +
Jenner & Block, LA +
K&L Gates, SF +, Sea +
Keker, SF -
Latham, LA +, NY +, SF +, SV +/-
McDermott, LA +, SV +
Morgan Lewis, SF +, SV +
Morrison & Foerster, LA +, SD +, SF +, SV +
Nixon Peabody, SF +
O'Melveny, SF +, SHA +, SV +
Orrick, SF -, SV +
Paul Hastings, LA +, SV +
Proskauer Rose, LA +
Quinn, SF +, SV +
Sedgwick, SF +
Shartsis Friese, SF +
Shearman & Sterling, SF +
Sheppard Mullin, LA +
Sidley Austin, LA +
Simpson Thacher, LA +
Sullivan & Cromwell, NY +
Weil, NY +, SV +
White & Case, LA +, SV +/-
Wilmer, DC +/-, LA +, NY -, SV +/-
Wilson Sonsini, SV +
As far as I can tell, Boalties are doing quite well. I know several people with 5 or more callbacks already and I know people that are well below the median and have V50 callbacks. This is all anecdotal, of course.

Re: Berkeley Law OCI
We're nearly a week past the end of EIW and I have yet to hear from 12 out of my 20 screeners.
Rejections received so far are from: Cleary, Wilmer, and Crowell (all via email, all DC). Latham is the only snail mail rejection so far.
Any others with a similar situation? These callbacks/rejections are taking forever.

Callbacks generally come by phone within a few days. Rejections come by email or snail mail and take longer. If you haven't heard from a firm within a week, the odds are that it's a rejection.

Re: Berkeley Law OCI
A few firms told me at the screening interviews to not necessarily give up if we haven't heard anything within a week. A consequence of our EIW being so early is that some firms want to interview students at several schools before issuing callbacks.
I think there's at least some truth to this because I received an e-mail today from one of my screeners telling me not to give up because the firm just hasn't had the hiring meeting yet.

Would be great to see a little more action on here! Any good stories so far? Unexpected successes? Expected successes?

Re: Berkeley Law OCI
The Nuts and Boalts list, which continues to be updated, makes clear that most firms have already given callbacks. Some firms might be holding on to a few "bubble" candidates until they assess the pool at other schools, but with the 28-day response window on offers, no firm can afford to give their competitors too much of a head start in recruiting the students they really want.

Re: Berkeley Law OCI
While that's probably true, it does seem like the DC offices are taking a lot longer to respond. N&B only shows a handful of DC offices giving CBs so far... (and yes, I'm aware that N&B is not a complete list).Anonymous User wrote:The Nuts and Boalts list, which continues to be updated, makes clear that most firms have already given callbacks. 9 cbs, 2 offers so far and 1 post-cb ding. Still haven't heard from 6 of my screeners, but there are only 2 of those I would even consider at this point.

Re: Berkeley Law OCI
Having some work experience helped, but I also think that having a clear focus of what kind of law I wanted to practice and how that interest fit their team/practice/firm was important. It's no coincidence that my callbacks involved interviews with specific practice groups. The whole "fit" thing isn't just about personality.canon wrote:Wow, congrats!Anonymous User wrote:Four callbacks so far (V5, V25, and 2 V50), and one offer from a V50. While it's true that grades do/did matter, and that mediocre grades ruled out some possibilities, I never felt that my grades should hold me back from going for whatever job I wanted.
There's no set formula to getting these jobs--good grades help, but alone aren't always enough; bad grades can make things tougher, but they aren't going to sink you--either way, you still go to Boalt and can get a job a top firm regardless of your grades (I know you hear it all the time from classmates, but it's true).
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
