Post by Anonymous User » Thu Aug 04, 2011 9:51 am

Interviewing for fall externship soon. Any advice for good questions to ask the interviewer?

Information on prosecutors is hard to find.

Are you going into second or third year? Many states allow students to practice under the supervision of an attorney third year so some USAOs will allow students to argue motions with a practice certificate. That can be a good discussion topic. (Do you allow students to argue motions? How often does the office's load permit it? Etc.)

Also, try to find out the size of the office. If it is a large office, they will almost certainly split between Civil and Criminal. Ask if students have an opportunity to work in both or if they are assigned to one. If it is a smaller office, ask if the AUSAs become specialist in certain areas or if they are generalists, taking whatever is necessary at the time.
