"Law Review/Journal Required"
One of the firms I bid (in an pure pre-select system) extended me an interview. Their description said, "Journal Required; Moot Court Preffered." Assuming I am otherwise qualified, does this mean that I have absolutely no shot? I'll admit, I knew I didn't have a journal when I bid on it; I had more bids than firms so I figured, what the heck? If it makes a difference, the firm is Weil Gotshal.

Weil posts that on Symplicity at every school they interview. I'm at HLS and it says the same thing. I wouldn't worry about it.

I think Weil has a little bit of a rep for "needing" or "preferring" certain qualifications from students, when that really doesn't turn out to be the case. I go to CCN and they have listed: "Law Review/Journal required," which just is not the case at all.

Great, thats really reassuring. I tend to interview well, and I look good on paper except for the Journal thing. I'm at BU/BC.Anonymous User wrote:I think Weil has a little bit of a rep for "needing" or "preferring" certain qualifications from students, when that really doesn't turn out to be the case. They have nothing listed for requirements at my school.

There's nothing for them for Michigan either. In fact, I haven't seen any requirements for any firms on Symplicity (except relating to joint-degree students and bidding on multiple offices. I think Michigan might not allow firms to do that since OCS talks up the fact that there's "no prescreening" a lot.Cupidity wrote:where are you, Yale?

Re: "Law Review/Journal Required"
This is Weil's symplicity post at Georgetown:
GPA: B+
Criteria: Journal Membership
Law Review/Journal is required; Moot Court/Advocacy is preferred.
A-/B+.
From what everyone else has posted, it looks like these are meaningless requirements.
