I'm mass-mailing now--is the consensus NYC is the easiest market to get biglaw (vs. Chi/DC/Boston/Cali)?

Also, what practices are hiring the most? Corporate/public finance? What if I have a liberal arts background--how do I get one of these public finance gigs in NYC?

That was the consensus until a few hours ago. See the UVA OGI thread.

Consensus is also that at the moment corporate is hiring more. Consensus is that stuff changes each year.

A V5 associate told me that, while corporate was easier last year, lit/corp hiring is going to be much more even this OCI period. In other words, it might not be the best idea to tell a firm how interested you are in corporate just to a get a job (or at least not as good of an idea as it was last year).

The UVA thing just seems like it is because all the NYC firms were horribly overbid by people trying to play it safe. Everyone was scared of DC, so people who really bid DC got more screeners.

The funniest part about this whole thing is that 75% of people who bid NYC had no interest at all in working there.

Your rang? And what's even funnier is that my gut told me not to do it because everyone would flock there, it's not the market where UVA has an especially strong rep (that would be DC), or the market where we are on even footing with any school except HYS (again DC).

uh-oh--I was mass mailing predominately NYC firms. Is it too late to mass mail DC, or are they almost done with hiring?

I can't imagine anyone is done with hiring at this point.

Why would they be done with hiring for next summer before august has even begun?

NYC firms are granting interviews. I mean, go ahead and mail DC, but don't give up on NYC.
