OCI Cover Letter

Post by PirateCap'n » Tue Jul 26, 2011 4:00 pm

When writing a cover letter for OCI that will be submitted on symplicity, is it better to put a date on the letter or not? I ask because the dates on my letters are from July. I don't want employers to see it and think that it's a typo, but I also don't want to change it to an August date and have it look like I waited until the last minute to write the letter. I realize that it's probably a stupid question with a clear answer, but I have no idea what that answer might be.

I personally don't put a date on my cover letters. I don't have a specific reason why I chose not to, I think it just never occured to me.

Also, you posted this twice.

Sorry to bump this old thread, but I have the same question. Do we put the day we wrote the letter (July 4), the date that our applications get sent to the firms, or something else?

The date you upload it to symplicity, or the date symplicity sends it to firms?

I also don't put dates on cover letters. But I would, if I wanted to create more work for myself, definitely put the date submitted to symplicity. You wouldn't want someone reading a letter with a month old date or something and wondering just how canned the cover letter is. Also I wouldn't future-date it or whatever in case it ends up in someone's hands earlier. Either way I feel like a weird date may be off-putting and might be best to just leave it off altogether.

The date the recruiter will read it.

Good luck with that
