I am top 15%, secondary journal, T2 (50-75) in a secondary market and am an SA currently during my 1L summer.
My preferred markets are NY, Philly or Chicago. Extremely difficult to get any of those obviously, so this is why I am asking. I have very good ties to both Chicago and Philly (High school growing up in one and undergrad in the other along with family there, I have no ties to NY. Firms coming to my OCI have offices in those cities, but I am never sure how that works since the person interviewing me is a person from the local office. With that said, do I have ANY chance at any NLJ250 firms in those markets? Do I have any chance at any NLJ250 firms ANYWHERE (with plans to lateral someday afterwards)?
Thanks in advance. Also, sorry for the anon. post, I really hate posting anonymously but I think its pretty self explanatory why I need to here.

Your best chance is going to be in the market where your school is located.

That is obviously a given, and I'll have a solid shot through OCI for firms in my market one way or another, but my question is are there any firms out there that sending a cold app too with my stats/ties wouldn't be a COMPLETE waste of time? Our CSO said Reed & Smith in Oklahoma City is hiring a bit less selectively for that office than any other. Other than that I have no real info on other firms.

Definitely mass mail any markets you have ties (hell if you have the time i guess mail everywhere) to and maybe new york (some of the least grade conscious firms are in NYC), but i wouldn't expect much... that being said go on martindale and look to smaller firms (non NLJ 250) that have summer programs.... you definitely have a shot, but it won't be easy
