So what does 2012 look like for 2Ls?
Just wondering, better than 2010/2011, or worse? Can people in top 20 schools reasonably expect to be paid for something (whatever that pay is), or is it going to be a bloodbath?
Just wondering because I'm currently a 1L, about to do OCI, and I work at a pretty good 1L internship here, obviously unpaid, but my co-workers is a 2L and she's also unpaid...not a top school, but still, pretty scary stuff.
What's the expectation generally among students? Any good articles etc... to read on the subject?

There are a lot of unpaid gigs that are better than small hourly paid ones.Eco wrote:Just wondering, better than 2010/2011, or worse? Can people in top 20 schools reasonably expect to be paid for something (whatever that pay is), or is it going to be a bloodbath?

That's true, shouldn't be so quick to judge. Probably would rather work a government job etc... than a job at a small firm for example. Still, are students expecting more paid positions for next summer?

More than 2010 and 2011? Yes. More than 2008/09? Not so much.

the canadian economy, while not booming anymore, is steady and strong. there are lots of reasons why. this extends from trades-work to legal. it's an reasonable and legitimate idea to head home, actually. we don't have $160k big law salaries and the like, though.
where American JDs are concerned, one has to get qualified through the NCA. this isnt usually too much of a problem, and it's relative to your specific school and education with respects to how long it will take. 1 year is normal I think.
