I received 4 A's (Property, Con Law, LW & OA, and my elective) this past semester and 1 B (Contracts). I'm looking to get a summer associate position next summer and would prefer to do transactional work instead of litigation.
I'm wondering if my OCI chances are hurt by the fact that I excelled in traditional litigation classes while apparently struggling in the traditionally transactional class (Contracts).
I'm assuming it won't matter but curious if others think differently.
Also, my WE is more litigation-based (working for Criminal Division at USDOJ this summer & worked as a paralegal in litigation at a firm prior to ls) if that matters.
Thoughts?

It will not matter in the least. What you do in first year Contracts is so divorced from junior associate transactional practice that it might as well be Law of Basket Weaving or some other such thing.

I don't know that I would call the typical 1L contracts class "traditionally transactional."

Thanks, that's what I thought but just wanted to be sure. I just sort of figured that contracts would be more relevant to transactional work than the others. Of course I should know that 1L has nothing to do with the actual practice of law.

FYI - general commercial litigation is heavy on contract issues.bceagles182 wrote:Thanks, that's what I thought but just wanted to be sure.
