HLS 1L EIP with bad grades
I have all Ps and one LP from my 1L. Don't know where that puts me on the curve but it must be pretty low. I want SoCal (LA, OC and maybe SD). Does it even make sense for me to participate in EIP or should I just look elsewhere?

You're asking if it makes sense for you to at least try?Anonymous User wrote:Does it even make sense for me to participate in EIP or should I just look elsewhere?
I'm questioning your interest/commitment, frankly.

You should still do EIP but focus on less selective NY firms; that will increase your job chances Target southern california via mass mail.

Re: HLS 1L EIP with bad grades
I would seriously get in touch with ocs asap to hash out a legit strategy. If you hustle, I don't think its unreasonable that you could find a well paying job. However, it doesn't sound like you've put much thought into your situation. I suggest you get on that shit like right now. In any case, I suspect you'll get more out of posing questions to ocs rather than your equally clueless classmates over an anonymous message board.
good luck to you.
good luck to you.

Depends if you are from socal or not. If you are not from California, you are in trouble, but you may be able to find a small or medium-size firm job. Those jobs may be better anyway.

Re: HLS 1L EIP with bad grades
OP here: I am from SoCal and don't mind working in a small/medium firm.
I am married and would like to have a life outside of work. Ideally I would like to get a job in finance. If I absolutely have to practice law, I'd rather do so at a medium/small firm with better hours and lower pay. In other words even if I get a Biglaw offer for the summer at EIP, it's just that. I don't want Biglaw after graduation.
So I should attend EIP and try to land a gig?

OP: There are a couple of points in your posts I don't understand and am curious about. Maybe others are as well.Anonymous User wrote:Ideally I would like to get a job in finance.
1) What do you mean by job in finance?
2) Are you asking whether you should bother to go to OCI as a (presumably) below median HLS student, or are you asking whether you should bother to go to OCI as someone who wants to work in California but does not want Biglaw?

Re: HLS 1L EIP with bad grades
1) I am a CFA and a CPA with consulting work experience and anything from analyst to financial consulting would work well. My prior consulting WE was in strategic and operations but that required a lot of travelling so I am not looking for that.
2) The latter. I don't want Biglaw and I want California. I will try to land an analyst or even consultant position for the summer but I have heard it's rather hard from law school. If that fails, will I have a chance landing a job at a law firm for the summer by going to OCI or will I be better off looking elsewhere, i.e. mass mailing.
Many thanks!

Look into secondary markets. Like Wilmington, DE. I know an HLS person with your grades that got a job in that market last year (struck out in major markets). Not sure whether it was through OCI or mailing...

The jobs you are looking for will not be at your early interviewing program. Apply for the jobs you want in California independently.
