When does one start mass mailing? Forum

Is now too early to start? Did not do this as 2L and regretted it, when should you send on?

On a bunch of firm websites, they recommended August 1 as the general timeframe for beginning this. I wouldn't worry about it for awhile because it is too early.

I've seen a few firms on simplicity that posted July 1st deadlines for submission. Take from that what you will.

It's a little too early. Any time beginning around July 1st will be in the right window, and you definitely want your materials to arrive well before OCI begins in early to mid August.

Only send to firms that are not OCIing at your school? Or go ahead and include them as well?

I got a big "DEF no" from my school, and numerous firms confirmed this. They said that if they visit, don't apply outside of OCI. The questionable area is what to do when only one office is visiting from a firm, and you wish to apply to another. In some cases, the firms want you to go through OCI and indicate to the interviewer that your preference is for a specific office, while some firms want you to apply outside of OCI.

From my career advisor:

1. Send mass mailings in mid-jluy. Before that, and the recruiting department is still focused on getting this year's SA's running.

2. Any later, and they are focused on getting things going for OCI.

Do not mass mail firms attending OCI. That is a waste of their time and yours.
