Crappy Undergrad - 1L Summer Prospects?
So, I had a crappy ugpa and a mediochre LSAT - 2.5/161, respectively.
As such, I'm going to start at a Texas T4 school this fall. I'm fairly bright and have developed a work ethic since graduating college 4 years ago, though.
So, if I show up to law school and I crack skulls and get my top 1%, what can I hope to do summer 1L?
From what I've read, your summer 1L job opportunities are based largely on your application credentials, since they won't have grades yet. I may have an in to get an interview with one of the big TX firms (BB or F&J), but I'm not even really sure about that (and if your job opportunities are based on your app credentials, I'm not sure how much good an interview would do). Should I just hope to get a clerkship or advocacy gig 1L summer and then, once I rock socks in law review, moot court, and 1L grades come out - then hope to get something a little nicer summer of 2L?
God this is a rambling incoherent mess. I didn't sleep well last night. I'll blame it on that.

also, you are prob in for a huge shock with your LS plans. (barring you're not a very poor flame)
EDIT: have you even seen the TLS writeups in TX t4 schools? Read them and them take into account they were written when times were good.

ok.
well, thanks for what earnest help was provided.
I'm not totally sure what I've done wrong here. I've tried to be frank.
I don't think it egregiously arrogant to think that I can pull good grades and have a solid class rank at a T4 school.
Maybe it is. I dunno.

The fact people are responding the way they are is because most people know ^ that info and all should know...
Best of luck.

lolPlenty of people respond to this information by saying “I’ll just do really well in law school and end up at the top of my class so I can keep my scholarship and get a biglaw job” or by saying “I’ll get in the top 10% of my class the first year and transfer to a much better school.” However, these people are sorely mistaken because you cannot predict how your grades will fall.
awesome.
I'm a "that guy."

Re: Crappy Undergrad - 1L Summer Prospects?
Your prospects aren't exactly horrible, depending on what you mean by "texas t4 school". All t4 are not created equal. If your Texas t4 school is, say, stcl, your prospects are much better than if it was Texas Southern.
One advice I would give you, is that you have to fucking be on the ball when it comes to applying for jobs. You won't have total control on how your grades turn out, but once December comes around, start sending out applications. Do not be one of those slackasses that bitch and moan that you can't find summer work when you didn't even think about summer work until March.
If you have decent grades and own your job search, you should be fine.

Re: Crappy Undergrad - 1L Summer Prospects?
Top 1% from any accredited school will have decent summer prospects. With that said, predicting top 1% as an 0L is crazy. I am in the top 1% of my class after Fall, and I have no idea if I will remain there once Spring grades come out. You most likely will be in the middle of the class, and people in the middle of their classes at T4s can have a lot of trouble finding summer work (or jobs on graduation).
I can't speak for T4s, but I would assume that even T4s have some very bright students. Many of your fellow students will be having plans similar to yours. Don't go in expecting to outperform your fellow students due to your low GPA and high LSAT. The LSAT can be a decent predictor of law school success, but on many instances it is inaccurate. If you choose to attend a T4 school, make sure you are okay with your prospects as an average student in that school. Perhaps you will end up at the top of your class or the bottom, but think about your prospects as an average or below average student before making a decision.
Disclaimer: I have no problem with people attending T4 schools. However, attending a T4 with the intention to be in the top 1% because the top 1% from a T4 have decent or even good job prospects is a BAD idea.
