Okay, I'll boil the rambling down.
Small IP boutique 1L summer internship - Is it serviceable if I hope to end up in a mid-size SA and mid-size firm?

Re: 1L offer: accept or reject?
does it pay well?
And they want you to work summer and all of 2L year or immediately for a year?
Grades are much more important than where you work for the summer. with that said you do want something legal related over the summer. If this is your only viable option so far then you might have to suck it up and go with it.

Re: 1L offer: accept or reject?
Immediately, and through my 2L year.
The pay is good. Not crazy good, but definitely good.
I would not go so far as to say this is my only viable option, but there is a decent likelihood that I would be doing non-profit, but legal, volunteer work this summer. Or interning for a state judge. So yeah, if I want to be sure to make money doing legal work, this might be it.
A downside is that I would have less flexibility next year. If I were lucky enough to make law review, my life would suck a lot more than it does now.
Thanks.

Semi-thread hijack, but what are the rules regarding work during 1L? I think I read somewhere that the ABA has rules regarding working during your 1L, am I way off base?

No more than 20 hours per week, I think.

^Thanks.
OP, I'd say go for it. The money is good, and if you land LR I'm sure they'd be understanding. If they aren't, choose which one you'd rather do, it's a great choice to have to make.
