Missing BigLaw at T14
I apologize if this has been asked hundreds of times before.
So lets say you go to a T14-T10, and you miss BigLaw, but don't have abysmal grades (relatively. Lets assume you place 60th percentile in your class). What are your options if you still want to work for a private firm, and what income can you expect to pull?

to get back on topic, what does midlaw pay? Are employment chances for midlaw pretty good if you're around 60th percentile at GULC?

Depends on what market you go to.Redsgomarchingon wrote:to get back on topic, what does midlaw pay? Are employment chances for midlaw pretty good if you're around 60th percentile at GULC?
Some mid law firms pay pretty low salaries (30 - 40k), others have more respectable pay (80 - 115k). I don't really know much more about it, but you can check out the NLJ. I also think there are a few threads here about midlaw firm pay.

My Schools Career office (top 10) said I can expect to earn 10-15 dollars an hour in a private firm. This is not a joke sadly.

Re: Missing BigLaw at T14
Even if you worked 80 hrs/week every week all year that would only be 38K/yr. If that is true then your top 10 school is seriously skewing its median private sector salary. IIRC all top 10 schools say the median is 160K. What's going on here??Anonymous User wrote:My Schools Career office (top 10) said I can expect to earn 10-15 dollars an hour in a private firm. Re: Missing BigLaw at T14
Less than half of those going into the private sector earn less than ~160 at top 10 schools? Which is, and has been, more or less correct. Remember, median = the student in the middle, not the average (sum of all salaries divided by number of students).bendurnotes4me wrote:Even if you worked 80 hrs/week every week all year that would only be 38K/yr. I don't know where you from, but small and midlaw where I am from is a guaranteed 60k+ and COL here is very low. However it is a secondary market and there is definitely a lack of law schools and law school graduates here.Anonymous User wrote:My Schools Career office (top 10) said I can expect to earn 10-15 dollars an hour in a private firm.
