DOJ Antitrust interview

Post by Anonymous User » Tue Mar 01, 2011 10:55 pm

I have an interview coming up with the DOJ Antitrust division at one of the field offices. I am a 1L so this is for the volunteer legal intern program. Has anyone worked with the Antitrust division? I am very interested in the work and I've done some research already, but I'm curious to hear some first hand accounts of both the interview and the job.

Also, for those of you with an opinion, if you had to choose (2 of the 3) between USAO, DOJ antitrust, and a judicial internship (non-fed), which would you choose and why? Thanks in advance for your insights.

can't speak to the interview or internship aspects but I talked to someone who works at a field office.

it seems that the job duties depend on which division you're in (criminal vs. civil). the particular person I talked to was on the criminal side and she said they did everything from investigation through litigation. apparently knowledge of business/economics isn't a pre-requisite but it certainly helps (especially on the civil side). seems like an awesome place to work though: cooperative atmosphere, some opportunities to travel (both domestically and abroad), and if you're interested in anitrust then the cases seem pretty interesting as well.

idk if this helps at all, just sharing some info

as for your preference question...I think it largely depends on your career goals. USAO and DOJ antitrust would be a killer combo if you're set on gov work. however, there is something to be said for splitting between gov work and the judicial internship in order to get a variety of experiences (gov vs. chambers). given that the judicial internship isn't at a federal level, I'd probably lean more toward the two government positions in this instance.
