When I interviewed I was really grilled on why criminal law (this was criminal division) and why prosecution - they really, really grilled me on the why prosecution - which I thought was strange for a 1L position to push my commitment to prosecution vs defense like thatAnonymous User wrote:I have an interview for a 1L clerkship at the us attorneys office in my city. They asked why law school - again lots of followup probing me to go deeper into my reasons why
I really felt this was a hardball interview - almost like a tough socratic professor where they keep following up until they stump you with something you hadn't thought about - I guess to see how you react to it once you get there.
Other questions I remember were: standard questions about stuff on my resume and what I did, what other positions I've applied for and why, how I like law school and favorite class - I don't remember much else.

that really does sound like an intense interview for an unpaid clerkship. did the interview match the level of responsibility that they gave you once you began working.

Can anyone tell me about their experience as a 1L intern at their local USAO? What type of work were you given? did you get to see trials? did your opinion actually matter? did you do substantive legal work and if so what types of work?
